Event: Legendary Makers Market Wellness Space: Led by led by Yume Takeuchi, L.Ac.

Description: The Wellness Oasis, located on the first floor of the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts, will feature a diverse range of workshops and demonstrations, including massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, creative mindfulness, and yoga. The space is curated to offer attendees an immersive wellness experience while also introducing them to diverse practitioners from the Asian-American community across greater Portland. Our aim is to create a welcoming environment where attendees can pause, gain insights, and explore what wellness means to them.

Yume Takeuchi, L.Ac. is a licensed acupuncturist (Yuzu Acupuncture) and the wellness activation partner for this year’s Legendary Makers Market. 

There are two scheduled workshops: 

Friday, July 26th from 5 pm-7:30 pm - "Creative Mindfulness Workshop" with Thi Doan

on Saturday, July 27th from 5 pm-6 pm - "Feelings & Emotions Workshop" with Debbie Yoro, LCSW

Non-scheduled activities at the Wellness Oasis will include:

Amy Homer-Brown, L.Ac

Amy Homer-Brown, L.Ac is the owner of @ikigaiwellnesspdx in Tigard. She is a Japanese-style acupuncturist and specializes in providing gentle medicine for chronic pain and gut health issues.

“I make acupuncture available to those who dismissed acupuncture as not for them by using non-insertive needles and other gentle tools and modalities, helping people feel their best again.”

Along with acupuncture & herbal medicine, Ikigai Wellness offers fire cupping, craniosacral therapy, massage, infrared sauna therapy and vibroacoustic therapy.

Debbie Yoro, LCSW

Debbie Yoro, LCSW is a licensed social worker and mental health therapist in OR and WA. She has been facilitating workshops and discussion groups for the AAPI community, with a focus on self reflection and personal growth.

“I’m of Filipino heritage and was born and raised in Hawaii. Most of the clients I work with are BIPOC and primarily Asian American. I have a passion for teaching skills for improving emotional awareness, emotional regulation, communication, healthy boundaries and relationships.”

Debbie will be offering one of her discussion groups at the Wellness Oasis this year, sharing her techniques on regulating emotions. The discussion will reflect on getting in touch with our emotions, how to process them and exploring ways of asserting oneself.

Tony Tran, DC

Dr. Tony Tran is a rehab chiropractor and owner of Prolific Wellness Chiropractic and Sports Rehab in Portland. His practice offers chiropractic care, physical therapy, sports medicine and custom exercise programs. In practice as well as online, Dr. Tran strives for excellence through superior patient treatment, education and satisfaction.

Niko Kunihisa, LMT

Niko Kunihisa (she/her) is the owner/operator of Wayward Massage Therapist. Her passion lies in connecting one-on-one with every client to facilitate healing and relaxation during every session.

Employing a combination of Thai, neuromuscular,, myofascial techniques, and a personal touch, she addresses specific areas of focus desired by her clients. Specializing in alleviating low back/hip pain and sciatica, Niko, a queer, Asian American female, holds a strong commitment to fostering safe environments for marginalized communities.

“I was born and raised in the 808 state of Hawaii and graduated from UH Manoa. From there, I lived and worked in Japan as an English teacher for 7 amazing years before finding my way to Oregon and massage. In my free time, I enjoy creating art of all mediums, road trips, and spoiling my overly intelligent rescue cat, Valkyrie.”

Judy DeHoogh, L.Ac

Judy DeHoogh, L.Ac is an acupuncturist with extensive training and experience in culturally responsive, trauma informed care. She practices out of @blackpearlwellnesspdx in Portland and offers support for people experiencing a range of conditions including chronic and acute pain, hormonal balance, gastrointestinal support and mental-emotional health.

Judy was inspired to pursue acupuncture as a profession after her personal experience of receiving profound support and healing. She believes acupuncture can provide relief that allows one to connect with more clarity to their body and life and lead to transformative change.

“My relationship with acupuncture is also one of ancestral connection. Acupuncture has given me the opportunity to connect more closely with my heritage.

I am proudly a multi-racial Korean American practitioner and strive to create a safe and trauma-informed environment for everyone I work with. ”

Thi Doan

Thi (“tea”) Doan is the owner of @thidoanart whose mission is to use the language of art to cultivate meaningful connection, kindness, and mindfulness. Having worked as a clinical pharmacist for greater than 10 years, she has seen how one’s wellness needs to incorporate the whole health.

Thi combines her background as a fine artist and her own personal mindfulness journey to offer Art-Based Mindfulness Practice (AMP) tools and workshops to help people improve their own wellness. She has taught AMP workshops using the visual arts as an anchor for mindfulness at various sites and events.

Thi will be offering a sampling of a guided art-based mindfulness practice at the @legendarymakersmarket Wellness Oasis this year. Enjoy a moment of groundedness and play, while learning how to cultivate self-love.

Chris Lum

Chris Lum is a cultural educator and tea server in the Pacific Northwest. His podcast “Tea Talks” has gathered stories and perspectives through the global tea scene. He has been doing gatherings centered around GongFuCha (Chinese Tea Service) in the AAHPI community for many years.

When he is not serving tea, he is also teaching traditional Kung Fu at Flying Tortoise Academy. In 2024 he became a lineage disciple of the Liang family of BaguaZhang in Beijing.

Come and visit Chris at the @legendarymakersmarket Wellness Oasis where he will be serving traditional Chinese tea.

Dr. S.H. Moon

Dr. S. H. Moon (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist, DEI consultant, professor, and educator, who is passionate about decreasing mental health stigma in BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities.

Currently, she is a Lecturer in Psychology and Co-Director of the Multicultural Seminar at Harvard Medical School, Assistant Director of Sport Psychology at Oregon State University, and DEI Consulting Psychologist at Boston University.  In 2023, she began her role as a consultant to CALM, a mental health and meditation app, where she has created 3 programs focused on supporting the LGBTQ+ community’s mental health journey.

Dr. Moon was born in Seoul, South Korea and immigrated to Los Angeles, CA, where she began her journey of processing what it means to be Asian and Asian American. She spends much of her time investing in what she loves: friendships, being outdoors camping or hiking, eating delicious food with people she loves, making coffee, and moving her body through exercise.

You can find Dr. Moon at the @legendarymakersmarket as the moderator for the mental health panel, “The In-Between Spaces of Being Asian/Asian American”. The panelists will discuss navigating their Asian/AA identity as they existed in the in-between spaces, and how their mental health was affected throughout the process.

Yoo Seon V. Hwang

Yoo Seon Veronica Hwang is a licensed esthetician and Korean skincare expert. She is the owner of Yoo Be Korean Skincare and Wellness in Portland.

Born and raised in South Korea, Yoo Seon began going to spas with her family at an early age. She learned self-care practices at the spas and had a daily multi-step skincare routine by the time she was 13 years old. Going to the spa in Korea continues to be one of her fondest childhood memories.

“I struggled with a chronic autoimmune skin condition and it has been a lifelong lesson to understand my own skin and health. This struggle kick-started my interest in skin health and it is my joy to share my culture and expertise with everyone through Yoo Be Korean Skincare & Wellness.”
